Located in the southern part of the island, Gelso is a small village nestled between the ancient Lighthouse and Punta Bandiera. A few secluded houses, surrounded by a peaceful and completely different atmosphere than that of the port area. The first church on the island stands near the town, namely the one dedicated to the Madonna delle Grazie, honoured by the inhabitants of Vulcano on the first Sunday of July and carrying her in a procession on a boat that leads from Scario al Faro to Punta Bandiera.

Tourists go to the little village of Gelso because they are attracted by its beaches of black sand: the beaches of Cannitello and Asino. Before leaving this place so full of discreet and solitary charm, we advise you to stop at one of the trattorias in the area to taste the delicacies of the local cuisine: fresh fish, ricotta and goat’s cheese of Vulcano, perhaps accompanied by a nice glass of wine.
